about the artist.

Born and raised in Clifton, Texas, a small community with big art influence, Katie has been impacted by art all her life and naturally felt drawn to creative outlets. Her professional background is varied, with a first career as an orthotic and prosthetic clinician for 12 years. She transitioned away from clinical practice here in the U.S. in 2021 to focus more fully on art and leads an international nonprofit, Prosthetic Promises In His Name, providing prosthetic services in Zambia.

Katie is a multidisciplinary artist with an emphasis on indoor and outdoor murals, acrylics, and mixed media with focus in figurative subject matter. Since 2014, she has focused on painting site-specific murals that seek to create unique connections with visual art for viewers. Her experience with commissioned murals and public art projects ranges from private homeowners to businesses, governmental entities, and nonprofits, to community organization public art projects.

Katie lives in Southern Maryland. â€‹

Artist Statement

Without formal arts training, I've developed my signature style—murals and graphic aesthetic artworks—through continuous experimentation and a willingness to pursue what challenges me. That spirit drives everything I make, from large-scale murals to smaller graphic works. Over time, what has emerged isn't just a style but a set of values: that art should be colorful and alive, that it should feel like an invitation to pause, and that the best encounters with art make you smile.

Connection is at the heart of my practice. When I work on a mural, I'm listening to the architecture where the mural is being painted, the history of a place, the community around it, or the person who commissioned it. That listening shapes everything. My smaller works have the same intention, using graphic, bold aesthetics to explore the threads that link us to each other, to the natural world, and to ourselves. I want people to recognize something in the work or discover something they didn't expect.

Being self-taught has meant that my practice grows the same way I do: through trying, failing, returning, and trying again. I don't think that ever stops. My practice has evolved through trying new mediums and subjects while returning to recurring themes that anchor my work. What keeps me going is the belief that I should seek continual growth—both as an artist and a person.
