Fifty-Two Reflections

A new year always brings new resolutions and a "fresh start" vibe. I tend to make a few New Year's resolutions each year, and like most people, some work out, but many do not.
Over the past month or so, I've been reflecting on 2025 and looking ahead to 2026. What will my New Year's resolutions be this year? I usually have some ## goal of books to read, make improvements in _____ area of life, perhaps a few other things, and something art focused.
In a combination of making improvements in intentionality and confidence, along with art-focus, I’m beginning a new body of work called Fifty-Two Reflections.

The series will be 52 individual paintings, each created on a playing card from a new deck – one per week. Working within the familiar structure of a full deck allows space to reflect on chance, repetition, and the small variations that shape a larger whole. Each card holds a quiet moment; together, they form a longer meditation on time and lived experience through 2026. The structure of this project invites intentionality -- a prompt to be present throughout my days as I make note of what moment, connection, or event will inspire that week's painting.
Rather than releasing everything at once, this series will unfold slowly. I’ll be offering one original painting from the deck each month throughout 2026 as early releases. Prints from the series will also be released along the way, with an early 2027 exhibit of the full collection.
I wanted to share the rhythm and intention behind this project. More details will come as the first few cards are completed, but for now, I’m grateful to have you here as this series begins.
I have painted several small playing card series and "one-offs" over the past few years and quite enjoy the tiny, quirky works of art I can create. Enjoy a look at some of my favorite playing card paintings from the past...

Beautiful.
Love this idea. Can’t wait to see it!
